This surprise ‘flash dance’ event took place in the centre of Ramsgate on 8 May 2010. Organised by Ramsgate Arts, the group consisted of four professional dancers and a ‘flash mob’ of people from Ramsgate and beyond. It was the second of three dances planned by Ramsgate Arts. A third, featuring Jive, will take place some time in June. Anyone can join in the dances, which pick up on the biggest ‘hate’ highlighted by the 1000 people who attended last year’s Love Hate Hope Ramsgate – litter. Ramsgate Arts are planning a three day arts festival – A Summer Squall – at the end of August 2010.
Soup is a dance event, based on improvisation. Seated at a table, the audience and performers are served soup. This being the basis, a performance is created using improvisation and the interactions from the audience. Lisi Estaras, choreographer at les ballets C de la B, is focusing on improvisation as a choreographic motor. Together with a group of performers she created and developped rules of improvisation. The ultimate test is an event with an audience that – as a family sharing eating soup – can participate in the actions.
